You may find that the security icon on Netscape® Communicator or Microsoft® Internet Explorer does not indicate that you are connected to a secure server. Netscape® Communicator highlights the lock icon of the Security button on the toolbar at the top of the page. Microsoft® Internet Explorer does so by displaying a lock icon on the page's bottom status bar. The reason these browsers do not detect the secure connection is because this website uses frame HTML technology and the browsers only indicate the secure connection if the connection is from the top level page of those displayed. (Note, you will not transfer to the secure server until you proceed to the final checkout after you've confirmed the contents of your shopping cart and click the Checkout button.) There are two simple methods to confirm a secure connection. The first can be done without altering any browser settings but requires a few extra mouse clicks. The second requires changing some browser setting but enables pop-up security indicators that will work for secure transactions on all websites. Method 1 Microsoft® Internet Explorer - Right click your mouse with the pointer over the Checkout icon on a product page or the Checkout link on the menu and select Open in New Window. The checkout form will be displayed in a new window which will indicate a secure connection as described above. You can complete your checkout from there. Method 2 Show a warning before:
When your browser is configured in this manner, it will pop-up a notice when you enter and when you leave a secure connection. Microsoft® Internet Explorer - From the Tools menu item, click Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. Under the Security section, check the following selection. [x] Warn if changing between secure and not secure mode. When your browser is configured in this manner, it will pop-up a notice when you enter and when you leave a secure connection. |
